What Children Can Expect to Learn
Brain stimulation is one of the most important gifts parents can give to their children. A child’s brain is like a sponge – it absorbs stimuli and information continuously right from birth. However, the efficiency of a child’s brain is constrained by time. The brain is constrained by “critical periods” – the windows of opportunity that nature flings open, starting from birth, and then slams shut, one by one, with every additional candle on the child’s birthday cake. It is important to start the brain development journey as early as when the child enters the world.
Children as young as 3½ years old can start their MentalmaticsTM journey. We have the following programmes to cater to children of different age groups and skill levels:
Kindy programme (suitable for children aged 3½ years and up)
It does not matter if your child does not know how to write numbers. As long as your child can hold a pencil, we will train him/her from a non-writer to a one who can write numbers and perform simple mental calculations within 9 months.
Foundation programme (suitable for children aged 4 years and up)
We will teach children number bonds of 5 and 10 and introduce them to the formulae for these number bonds. Children will also be exposed to multiplication of two single-digit numbers.
Once children have completed the foundation programme, they will be promoted to the intermediate programme where they will easily apply the formulae they learnt to arithmetic questions. Children will also be guided on how to fully make use of their mental arithmetic abilities to check and solve Mathematics problem-sums for their respective levels in schools.
A high-level programme for children after they have successfully passed the Intermediate programme. Children at this stage are able to perform mental calculations for whole numbers and decimal points involving the four mathematical operators – addition, subtraction, multiplication and division – with breakneck speed and high accuracy.
We will conduct regular grading examinations for Abacus Arithmetic, Mental Arithmetic and Aural Mental Arithmetic from the Taiwan National Abacus Association. Highly-skilled children will be given opportunities to participate in national & international competitions to showcase and applaud their competencies and remarkable abilities.
